LaVerne Williams Children’s Christmas Party

Every December, the Carthage Police Department gives children from less fortunate families something for Christmas by hosting the LaVerne Williams Annual Children’s Christmas Party.

This event is funded totally by business and private citizens in the community who donate money or gifts. No city funds are used, and police employees and other community leaders volunteer their time every year to help kids. Children who attend are chosen by greatest need and the event helps around 600 children a year.  Typically, Duke Mason and his band provide the entertainment for the kids.

The party is named after retired Detective LaVerne Williams. LaVerne has passed on, but his enthusiasm for kids and this party will be remembered every year.
